Trade

The Akkadians were successful merchants, traders, and craftspeople. Akkade was a thriving commercial center and harbored ships from Magan and Dilmun in the Persian Gulf, as well as ships from as far away as Meluhha in India (Roaf, Cultural Atlas, 97). Trade routes along the Euphrates River were an important link to the Mediterranean Sea and the markets of Syria, Anatolia, and Egypt.
