Interrelationships with Other Biblical Texts
The lack of significant interrelationships between the narratives of David and other major biblical narratives may provide a clue into the dating of these texts. Specifically, 1 and 2 Samuel do not contain references to the patriarchs Abraham and Isaac, and they contain limited references to many of the tribes and the exodus. The only direct reference to the exodus in the narratives concerning David appears in Nathan’s oracle against the building of the temple (2 Sam 7:6). This may indicate that the David narratives were largely formed prior to many of the other biblical documents.
