Wisdom of Solomon and the New Testament
The author of Wisdom of Solomon calls Lot righteous, and places him in contrast with the ungodly inhabitants of the Five Cities (Wisdom of Solomon 10:6). The New Testament book of 2 Peter reflects a similar tradition in describing Lot as righteous (2 Pet 2:6–9). The author of 2 Peter further states that Lot was “worn down” and his soul “tormented” by the wickedness of the inhabitants of Sodom. Lot becomes the archetypal Christian living among the ungodly of the world who are awaiting God’s destruction of the wicked.
