Tahtim-Hodshi (תַּחְתִּים חָדְשִׁי, tachtim chodshiy). A region that David’s commanders visited during the census of Israel, according to the Masoretic Text of 2 Sam 24:6. The Hebrew reading of “land of Tahtim-Hodshi” (אֶ֥רֶץ תַּחְתִּים חָדְשִׁי, erets tachtim chodshiy) is generally considered to be a textual corruption. The most common alternative explanation derives from reading “land of the Hittites [to] Kadesh” (γην χεττιειμ καδης, gēn chettieim kadēs) with the Lucianic recension of the Septuagint. This reading reflects the Hebrew reading אֶרֶץ הַחִתִּים קָדֵשָׁה (erets hachittim qadeshah). Some English translations read “Kadesh” in the main text of 2 Sam 24:6 (e.g., ESV, NRSV). Others retain “Tahtim Hodshi” (e.g., NIV, KJV).
