Esdras, Second Book Of Also known as the Apocalypse of Ezra. An apocalypse, likely composed in the late first century ad. The book is attributed pseudonymously to Ezra, the biblical leader of the exiles returning to Judah.
Second Esdras wrestles with the problem of theodicy. It is a defense of God’s sovereignty and goodness in light of the evil that befalls His people and provides hope to an oppressed Jewish readership that they will ultimately be vindicated.
